Elea, ancient Greek colony – nowaday a name referring to no particular place – was located on the Cilento coast near the modern city of Salerno: it was the seat of the Eleatic School, a pre-socratic philosophy of which Parmenides was the main representative.

The image of it here evoked, far from any territorial reference, alludes to the light-years crossed by Time’s figures: Parmenides’ face seems to find and recognize itself in its reflected image in negative placed among celestial bodies.

Elea was donated by the artist for the project L’ora X of 2004.
