Two ordinary white metal fire doors that act as the main access to the portego of the picture gallery were been transformed into a work of art with the application of an adhesive paper that almost camouflages the door’s presence, harmonising it with its 18th century surroundings.

Arienti has utilised a kind of plastic-coated film used for covering furniture or doors of the sort commonly found on sale in ironmongers or DIY shops. It is a fairly ordinary material available in various shades of brown in order to ‘fake’ different types of wood. A grid that imitates the effect of the inlaid wood and brings to mind the decorations of the wainscoting running along the walls of the room.

Thus the door is invested with a new value and becomes a passage way between two different levels, a threshold that reunite the dimension of the present with that of the past.

The work was realized for the exhibition Disegni dimessi in 2008.
