19 June 2012

“In these difficult moments in which we are living, the exhortation is to give up the sense of measure and give into the sense of humour. Lots of women have received it as a gift from nature: it is time to use it for the good of all”. These are the words of Pat Carra, famous Italian cartoonist protagonist of Cartoons and Sex of humour. A meeting will be organized by Fondazione Querini Stampalia on Tuesday 19 June, at 6 pm at the Querini Stampalia Palace. Tiziana Plebani will be introducing it. Inspired by her last publication Sex of humour (Fandango 2011), Pat will be talking about cartoons, art and politics with her typical irony and sense of humour. From 19 to 24 June, at the Mazzariol Court, some pieces from the exhibition "The sleeping beauty works the night shift" will be displayed. Pat's cartoons describe work, relations between genders, war and domestic violence, the falling of patriarchy and the desider for female freedom. In Venice, Pat cooperates with La Fenice Theatre drawing cartoons on the librettos. The bookshop will be selling books and Indian bags of “Punto a capo I Milano Mumbai” with Pat's cartoons hand-embroidered by the artisan women from ONG "Lok Leva Sangam".
