Ilya & Emilia Kabakov
Where is our place?
11 June - 7 September 2003
curated by Chiara Bertola
Collateral event to the 50th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale
One of the most representative artists of the 20th century, who is considered as the father of Russian conceptualism, Ilya Kabakov, presents with his wife Emilia a project on the incredible opposition between contemporary art and the art of the past.
It is a reflection on art method and artistic experience as well as the need for a new critical and ethical consciousness. Two parallel exhibitions, one on works from the 19th century and the other on contemporary works, dialogue together amalgamating different times and visitors and focusing on the relativity of all things.
This project was possible thanks to the cooperation of Mori Art Museum in Tokyo and the MAXXI of Rome.
