Mona Hatoum
Interior Landscape
4 June - 20 September 2009
curated by Chiara Bertola
In concomitance with the 53rd International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale
A big exhibition of Mona Hatoum's new and important art pieces, developed both in the area dedicated to temporary exhibitions and in the permanent collection of the Museum. It contains thirty pieces, many of them have never been exhibited in Europe.
Mona Hatoum's art pieces have an "alienate" impact. Her works are in contrast with the conventional function assigned to a work of art. They force to break up that relationship of quite contemplation which is typical of the museum and open to unusual associations.
According to Querini's tradition, Mona Hatoum was invited to bring out Fondazione Querini's memory and history. The final result gave a new, vibrant dimension to the Museum.
The exhibition was organized thanks to the main partner, Fondazione Furla of Bologna, the institutional partner, Veneto Region, and the special cooperation of Fondazione Querini, in Venice.
