ÁLVARO SIZA. VIAGEM SEM PROGRAMA. Drawings and portraits
From 29 August to 11 November 2012

Collateral event to the 13th International Architectural Exhibition - Venice Biennale

29 August - 11 November 2012

An exhibition completely dedicated to the most intimate and less known aspects of the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza, a leading figure in the International Planning contest, awarded in these days with the Golden Lion for Career at the 13th International Architectural Exhibition - Venice Biennale.

Organized by the cultural association MedicinaMentis, in cooperation with Fondazione Querini Stampalia, this exhibition is the result of several meetings the two curators Greta Ruffino and Raul Betti had with the Lusitanian architect in his studio in Porto. By showing 53 pieces taken from his notebooks and personally selected by the architect, this exhibition will describe not only the activities of the architect, but especially those of the man.

The exhibition will highlight the extraordinary eidetic memory of architect Siza, starting from his drawings (almost portrays of persons) during his youth, with a section dedicated to his family, his various journeys abroad, his dinners with friends and his spare moments, far from “the burden of his job”. It is a crescendo of memories, sensations, ironic hints and visions, which are all valid as they refer to life.
