Of the various funds procured by the Querini Foundation, that of Venetian poet Mario Stefani is singular in cultivating an appreciation for the local and national poetic voice.
This donation responds to the Querini Foundation's aims to nurture emerging artistic language and foster the creation of a section dedicated to twentieth-century Italian poetry. Chapbooks from small presses and connoisseurs' editions are represented, showcasing a refined reflection of the local culture.
The Stefani Fund includes about 6,800 books from the poet's private library, 3 posters, 16 nameplates awarded for his numerous cultural activities, and 26 paintings and graphic works as well as his correspondence with men and women of letters and the arts. While Stefani's books speak to his dedication and attention to the poetry of his time, his letters introduce us to his relationships with intellectuals such as Manlio Dazzi, Giorgio de Chirico, Virgilio Guidi, and Maria Luisa Spaziani.
The paintings and graphic works equally demonstrate the bonds of friendship Stefani maintained with many artists, as most of the images are portraits of the poet.
