"Itinerant as the twilight, sun glows and moon luminesces, so the brightness of the sun and the moon shines on the earth day after day." From this ancient Chinese script, the title of the exhibition “Splendors of the sun and moon” will open at the Scarpa area of the Fondazione Querini Stampalia from June 7th to July 22nd 2018.

The exhibition opens on 6 June: from 4 to 6 pm.

"Sun and moon", two celestial bodies that influence life on earth through the millennia, hold in them the first true meaning of Yin and Yang. The sun rises and the moon goes down, marking the natural rhythm of our planet. Every movement means a profound significance in the global vision of the world in harmony with the all living beings that are living on earth.

In the philosophy of Zhuang Zi, the Dao, the law that regulates the times and transformations of phenomena but also the divine will, is the primordial law of the universe. So for mankind, the meaning of life is the total research of the Dao to reach the true meaning of it. The research for the Dao can then take place in a different ways, especially it can happen firstly through the interior meditation of all the human being.

The alternation between the sun and the moon, today in China more than ever, are associated with the decline of tradition and the rise of contemporary innovations, a subject that is always very controversial, and sometimes painful, for Chinese culture.

Here the research of all the artists continues to be the center of all the discussions between tradition and innovation, in a path that still today does not find easy solutions.

In the name of the ancient concept of Guanghua, which embodies the relationship between light, color and materials as a relationship between the artist and the world on the outside, this exhibition is characterized by colors derived from the sun and the moon: the white, black and red. In particular, white is the harmony of nature in Chinese culture, harmony with "sun and moon".

The colors coexist with each other, making a perfect and compete universe. In the alternation of white and black, the sun and the moon, red interprets the human feelings arising from this relationship between the two celestial bodies. In ancient times red was called Zhu, the heart of the humans.

In this exhibition the artworks selected are based on the spiritual connotations mentioned above. All the artists presented are well renowned among the global contemporary art scene.
