The Querini Stampalia Foundation is among the oldest Italian cultural institutions. Since 1869 we have promoted “the cult of good studies and useful disciplines”, with a curious gaze and a passion for the future.

The Dreamer The Dreamer

• The Dreamer

— Second Floor

The exhibition is conceived as a series of cinematic sets or stages: entry ignites family obsessions; the library pulses with late-night wisdom; stables clash hoof and blade; the finale unpacks the 1869 will’s eternal gift.

• Luca Rento. Prima che tutto svanisca /Before It All Vanishes

• Luca Rento. Prima che tutto svanisca /Before It All Vanishes

Rento's solo exhibition brings together a selection of works made over the course of twenty-five years, films reduced to their essence that reveal something profound that concerns everyone – our being in the world, our relationship with time, with what changes and is inevitably destined to disappear. Kept alive, the moving image thus offers itself to the public as an act of resistance against disappearance. These works crystallise, in instants, the stages of one’s earthly journey.

• Pellestrina isola sottile

Pellestrina is the protagonist of the photographic exhibition by Anton Giulio Onofri, promoted by the Fondazione Querini Stampalia and Galleria 200C. A strip of land and sand that both connects and separates the lagoon landscape, Pellestrina becomes, through photography, an opportunity to bring different parts of the city into dialogue. The island is revealed through the light, colours and silence that shape its rhythm, restoring to the landscape its most essential dimension.

• Carlo Scarpa Area

Carlo Scarpa’s restoration turned structural necessity into visual poetry: controlled water, sculptural gardens, concrete, and Istrian stone engage with Venice’s aquatic nature, where high tide becomes performance and space invites quiet reflection.

Presentazione di Gesù al Tempio
Once the residence of the Querini Stampalia family, it is now one of the most evocative house museums in Europe. It offers a glimpse into daily life in a Venetian palace between the 18th and 19th centuries, through original furnishings, art collections, and historic frescoes.

• Library

• Library
The Library holds around 400,000 volumes, both ancient and modern, and has been known for over 150 years as the library of the Venetians. Open also on public holidays, it was established by Count Giovanni Querini, who made it public through the wishes expressed in his will.

• Library Giovanni

• Library Giovanni
Dedicated to Giovanni Querini, the bookshop is a meeting point between museum store and independent bookstore. It offers catalogues, objects, and a carefully curated, accessible selection. A space where books inspire reflection and a deeper understanding of the present.

• Auditorium

• Auditorium
Designed by Mario Botta, it is located on the ground floor of the Foundation. With 132 seats, it is among the largest in central Venice. It hosts conferences, concerts, and presentations, and can be connected to adjacent rooms. A space conceived for public and cultural exchange.

• The Late Night Library

From October, the Querini Stampalia Library is changing pace and extending its opening hours: every Thursday and Friday, it will be open until midnight. The Late Night Library is for those who love the Library at every time of day, as well as for those looking for a place to linger when Venice grows quieter. An opportunity to experience the Querini Stampalia beyond its usual opening hours, at your own pace and accompanied by the evening light.

• Fantastic People and Where to Find Them

Those who work at the Querini Stampalia are part of the Foundation’s everyday story: people who inhabit its spaces, shape its activities, welcome the public, care for its collections, and work with books, artworks and archives. With Fantastic People and Where to Find Them, visual artist Giusy Calia chooses to meet and photograph these very people, creating a gallery of portraits in which every face becomes an opportunity to imagine what lies beyond immediately visible identity. The result is an atlas in which the human figure is not exhausted by what is evident, but opens onto another dimension, made up of presences, associations and possibilities.

• Ritratti Volontari

The “Ritratti Volontari” project, promoted by the Querini Stampalia Foundation, was born from the desire to make visible a community that is precious and fundamental to us. More than a simple photographic record, the project takes the form of a gesture of recognition, dedicated to the people who, for a time, inhabit, care for and help make the Foundation a special and welcoming place.

• Afghanistan Pavilion 2028 – Road to Venice

Afghanistan Pavilion 2028 aims to create a platform for the representation of Afghan artists and cultural voices, both in Afghanistan and across the diaspora, on the occasion of the 2028 Venice Biennale. The project seeks to establish a framework for the representation of Afghan culture, inspired by the structure of national pavilions, with a clearly defined artistic vision, a curatorial approach and a governance structure, placing the Afghan cultural community at the heart of the process. The gathering at Fondazione Querini Stampalia marks the first public milestone in this journey.
